One of the most relevant pieces of advice I can give for fellow Angelenos are ideas on things to do near Los Angeles. Here are 5 awesome day trips from Los Angeles.
1.Universal Studios Hollywood

Universal Studios in Hollywood is one of my favorite places to go for a day trip. I haven’t gone in awhile because it’s getting into the peak season, which means crowds. But, on a slower weekday, this is a great way to spend a day. Season passes start at $159/person with varying amenities included with each pass.
2. Santa Monica Pier
I’ve only been to the Santa Monica Pier once, despite being in Los Angeles for nearly 9 years. That said, I would definitely want to go back should I have the opportunity. An unlimited ride wristband for ages 8 and up is $45 ($25 for 7 and under). I do recommend going early however, to avoid the crowds.
3. Malibu
Malibu is approximately 45 minutes from Los Angeles, and the best things to do in Malibu is to go hiking. Waterfalls are abundant in the forest and mountain areas outside of the city, and Malibu is no exception. You can find waterfalls in Escondido Canyon Park (Escondido Falls) and Solstice Canyon.

4. Palos Verdes

Although Palos Verdes has a botanic garden, the main thing to do in Palos Verdes is to walk near the ocean. There are some hiking trails in the area, but the main places I’ve gone hiking is at Pelican and Malaga Coves. I’ve since moved and have not been back in recent history, but these are great places to walk.
5. Griffith Park
Griffith Park is also another spot for hiking. The zoo and the Greek Theatre are in Griffith Park as well, but strolls through Amir’s Garden, hike to Bee Rock, Bronson Caves, the Old Zoo picnic area, the Wisdom Tree, and hike to the Hollywood sign can all be tackled from Griffith Park.
Final Considerations
These are 5 awesome day trips from Los Angeles, but there are many more options in this diverse cities.
