The January 6 Congressional hearings started on Thursday, June 9 at 5 PM P.S.T. Rep Bennie Thompson gave the opening statements before handing things over to his co-chair Liz Cheney. She outlined the case of what they will be presenting, starting with depositions where Trump’s inner circle stated that there was no fraud. Then they showed footage from the actual insurrection leading up to a 10 minute break.

To be honest, I couldn’t watch the videos of the riot. I watched on January 6, and I couldn’t really watch it closely again–it was too much. Brian Tyler Cohen, the commentator on the video above, talked about how angry he was rewatching this, but I’ve been angry and afraid since 2016, since Trump was first elected. It’s exhausting being as angry as I am, and watching these videos couldn’t make me more angry, because I’ve already been at that peak.
After the break, a Capitol Police Officer testified, and they showed film of Trump telling the Proud Boys to stand by, as well as their response on Parlor saying that they were standing by.
In her testimony, the officer described the scene as a war zone. It was worth than even I had thought, worse than I knew.
