A lot has happened in the last week. While I will touch on all of it, I will only go into Scotus overturning Roe v Wade in detail this week. Please read on for my take on the Jan 6 Committee Emergency Hearing & Scotus Rulings from this week.
I don’t have a lot to say about the hearing. Yes, it was explosive. Yes, it was a big deal. But, I felt like there wasn’t really anything unexpected–new information yes. Unexpected information, no. I saw Trump for what he was, and although it had not been proven, I believed many of the things addressed in this hearing to be true prior to the hearing.
Scotus Rulings on the Environment
Scotus ruled against the EPA, limiting their ability to protect the air quality in our country. It’s not bad enough that the food we eat is poisoned with chemicals, but now they want to poison the air? I don’t know a lot about this ruling, but I will try to educate myself on it more to address it in more detail over the coming weeks.
Scotus Overturns Roe v Wade
There have been a variety of reactions to this on social media. Joy and outrage, depending on whatever side you are on.
I grew up in the Catholic Church, and I considered myself pro-life for a time. I still do in a lot of ways, but I am pro-choice as far as abortion goes.
For me, I was always on the edge where this issue was concerned. My fear was that women would seek abortions whether it was legal or not, and that the abortions would just be less safe if they were not legal.
A friend convinced me of the opposite in high school, and I maintained that view through college.
It wasn’t until after I moved to California that I changed my mind. To be honest, it wasn’t so much of a mind change as it was finally being true to what I really believed. I’m not exactly pro-abortion, but if I were to become pregnant and for it to risk my life, I would like the option to end the pregnancy. With Roe v Wade gone, that right is no longer guaranteed.
The above video is about a woman who lost her life in Poland because she was denied an abortion.
In Alabama there are no exceptions for rape or incest–only when the health of the mother is threatened. But, who decides that?
I can barely even right this post because I am fighting tears. I am in California, so my right to an abortion is not at risk. But, how many women are going to die because of this ruling?
