Book Reviews: Edition 19

Book Reviews: Edition 19 focuses on Autumn, Jackie the Penguin Goes on Safari: A Story of One Little Penguin who Wanted to Meet the Wild Animals of Africa, and Herman, The Fourth Little Pig.

Autumn

Autumn is written by Leah Leslie. While I did find this to be one of her better books, one thing I don’t like about her books is that she includes a lot of information that isn’t relatable to children. For instance, although her tidbit about the Aurora Borealis is interesting, it’s not something I usually think about in the fall as an adult. And, children are less likely to think about it. Children also do not think about professional photo shoots.

Although she is trying to gear her books to children, they are written with a very adult mindset. This makes them inappropriate for children. And, I think that she needs to work on getting into the headspace of children more to make her books more relatable to children. This book gets 3/5 stars from me.

Jackie the Penguin Goes on Safari: A Story of One Little Penguin who Wanted to Meet the Wild Animals of Africa

Jackie the Penguin Goes on Safari: A Story of One Little Penguin who Wanted to Meet the Wild Animals of Africa is written by Alex Shaland.

If I had to choose only one word to describe this book, it would be disorganized. To be entirely honest, I could not finish this book as it just did not hold my attention.

And, he writer jumped around a lot. There was no coherent narrator. And, to be honest, I wasn’t sure who was telling the story half the time. The story itself was sloppy and hard to read because the lack of coherence.

This book gets 1/5 stars from me.

Herman, The Fourth Little Pig

Herman, The Fourth Little Pig is written by David Ward. While in many ways this was a cute story, the main character, Herman, is not very likeable. He started the story by running away from the wolf. And then he left his brothers to deal with the wolf on their own. That was just something I couldn’t get past. This story gets 3/5 stars.

Conclusions and Recommendations

After reviewing this week’s three books, I have to recommend Autumn by Leah Leslie. While there are parts that kids wouldn’t relate to, the rest of the book is good.
