I don’t usually celebrate Labor Day. This is mostly because I don’t celebrate a lot of holidays–always being on a budget can make that hard. This year, however, I took my conure to the Santa Monica Pier, which was surprisingly pet friendly.
The Santa Monica Pier is located on the western most coast of California in the city of Santa Monica. It is about 15 miles from Los Angeles or a 20 minute drive without traffic. Several buses stop near the pier as well.
The pier is free, however, if you want to ride the rides, you need to either pay by the ride with a fun card (you can purchase at the park) or purchase a wristband for all day riding. You can also pay $10 to go to the small aquarium located under the pier.
Pet Friendly Rides
A few months ago, I saw a video on Youtube featuring a young blind woman and her service dog at Disneyland. And, there were some rides the dog was allowed to go on.
With this in the back of my mind, I asked if there were any rides I could ride with Fawkes, my conure, who I had brought with me. I specifically asked about the Scrambler (my favorite ride) and the ferris wheel. Although, I was not at all surprised that the scrambler was a no, but to my surprise, he was allowed on the ferris wheel! I also suspect he would have been allowed on the carousel as well as I think it was the two gentlest rides he was allowed on.
Either way, it was a pleasant surprise that I was able to take Fawkes on the ferris wheel. He also responded ‘yes’ that he enjoyed it. It didn’t seem to me that he even noticed that he was on a ride, but you can decide below. I took video of both the ride itself, the pier, and I had a camera on Fawkes as well.
Is the Pier Really Haunted?
The Santa Monica Pier is said to be one of the most haunted places in Los Angeles. I didn’t see any ghosts, and I don’t think Fawkes saw any ghosts, but I’ll let you decide. Here are some photos of the most haunted spots on the pier.
