Book Reviews: Edition 12

For Book Reviews: Edition 12, I will be reviewing What Can Donna Draw?, Timothy and His Missing Tooth, and Eco-Friendly Tips Will Save Taffy Turtle and Her Friends: Climate Solutions Simplified (Protecting the Environment and Saving the Turtles Book 4).

What Can Donna Draw?

What Can Donna Draw? was written by Lourdine Joseph and illustrated by Sana.

While I felt this story had potential, I didn’t find it to be very well developed. I believe the theme was meant to be different cultures and that Americans have their own culture. But, this wasn’t clear.

In the story, Donna and her classmates are assigned to draw a picture of anything they want. This is the first issue.

I would have made the theme clearer by having the assignment be to draw themselves with their families in something that shows who they are. This way, there is a clear gateway to the cultural depictions each child (with few exceptions) draws.

This book gets 2/5 stars from me.

Timothy and His Missing Tooth

Timothy and His Missing Tooth is written by Mandy Leigh. To be honest, I didn’t really like this story. The point of the entire story is to find a missing tooth that isn’t actually missing. There’s no huge dilemma. It’s not clear why Timothy cares his tooth is missing, and there is no lesson learned or any growth for the character.

It would have been a simple matter of adding that the tooth fairy couldn’t give him money if he didn’t find the tooth. But, this is never stated. In fact, the tooth fairy is never mentioned at all. Nor is any mention as to why Timothy to cares about his missing tooth.

This story gets 2/5 stars from me.

Eco-Friendly Tips Will Save Taffy Turtle and Her Friends: Climate Solutions Simplified (Protecting the Environment and Saving the Turtles Book 4)

Eco-Friendly Tips Will Save Taffy Turtle and Her Friends: Climate Solutions Simplified (Protecting the Environment and Saving the Turtles Book 4) is written by Denise Salmon with contributions from Christine Young.

I’ve read a lot of books similar to this one (not by this author) and have not enjoyed them. Because of this, I did not expect to enjoy this one. Although I found some of the statements to be overly positive, overall, this story seemed a bit more put together than some I have read in the past.

This book gets 4/5 stars from me.
