Choosing Songs that Fit Your Voice Part

Choosing songs that fit your voice part is largely guided by the voice part that best describes your voice.

Vocal Range & Register

Vocal range is part of what sets each voice part apart from another. But, register is really what determines voice part and the types of songs that work best for your voice.

Each voice part has their own sweet spot or set of pitches it is most comfortable singing. While a song does not have to stay entirely within that sweet spot, it should mostly stay within that range.

For a soprano, that range is from F4-G5. And, for mezzos D4-F5, altos C4-E5, Tenors F3-G4, Baritones D3-E4, and Basses A2-C4.

For more information on this check out my November 15 blog post: How to figure out your voice part.

Singers and Groups for Each Vocal Part

For me, I tend to be most comfortable singing songs by Evanescence, Mariah Carey, and Phantom of the Opera.

For Mezzo Sopranos, Kelly Clarkson, Katy Perry, and Alanis Morissette are great options.

Etta James, Amy Winehouse, and Lady Gaga are great artists for altos.

The Beatles, Green Day, and Queen are awesome options for tenors.

Elton John, Elvis Presley, and Billy Joel are among the best options for baritones.

Songs by Barry White, Johnny Cash, and Josh Turner are great options for basses.
